Post workshop
September 28, 2006 by Lynne Gibb
Thank you to the people who came to the workshop. I was chuffed with the depth of discussion that went on – I can see we need more of that so please utilise this forum or the wiki to continue. I think I let the discussion go on a bit long because we did not really have enough time to go over how to use the wiki and blog very much so that was disappointing. I think I will need another session to do that . Time – or lack of it, is the main problem. Having a scribe there to record everything was fantastic. Good thing most people could come on a Tuesday because it may be difficult to get that amount of support again.

Lynne,
I already wrote a long thing and when i went to submit it, it wiped out what I had written in this space and said that I had not filled in the name and email. That was frustrating now I have to write it agian.
Thanks for a really interesting session last week, clearly with the amount of discussion that went on tutors do need a way of being able to talk together.
I think that perhaps this might be one way of doing that, though there is no substitute for being face to face with your peers and be able to have a laugh as well.
I think another session would be beneficial to learn the things about this forum that I probably won’t learn alone. Time seems to be in short supply for all of us this coming term though, so you may have trouble time tabling it at a convenient time for all.
I am needing to gain some feedback from as many tutors as possible to prepare for a conversation at the ACFE conference. Is this the apporpriate place to try to do that? It will be asking for feedback form tutors on the difficulties in working as a sessional tutor in ACE and what our managers/orgs can do to support us.
I was planning on emailing everyone I know, but perhaps I could ask on this site. What do you think?
cheers Lynne and thanks again for a great session.
Debbie
Hi Debbie,
Thank you for being the first to comment! I think the wiki is just the place to talk to tutors about your project. The discussion forum is just right for that. The email is good too as not everyone has seen this yet and you want to contact everyone.
I agree with you that we need another session, particularly for people to be able to work the wiki as the idea is that they will become confident enough to eventually do one of their own and use it with students. Sorry you had to do your comments here again – very frustrating but well done on getting the second lot to work!
I also agree that face to face discussions are the best way for tutors to talk and share together but as you so rightly pointed out, time is of the essence. I hope that we can do a bit of both. I think it just needs someone to organise it to make sure that it happens. That is why I am trying to take the lead in the online stuff.
I will be very interested in the replies you get back to your questions – it would be great if you could put the questions up in the wiki. If you like, I can do that for you this time – maybe make you a new page and then I can show you how to do it yourself. Let me know. Thanks again for your input- Lynne
I can’t beleive that I was first! I thought I took forever to work it out. I tried in the afternoon afternoon after the workshop to find my way around it. And I finally found this bit that you can write into.
I thought i would need a password to be able to do that.
